Journaling
A time for yourself
I have journaled most of my life. It has allowed me to set aside time with myself where I can bask in peace or reflect on my day.
How Journaling Helped Me
During my career, I traveled a minimum of twice a month and found myself alone in hotel rooms at night with time on my hands. Aside from reading an enjoyable book, journaling helped me stay grounded and connect my thoughts with the day, people I met, or places I visited.
My personal journaling experience became a pivotal part of my survival and healing. I realized that my life had taken an unexpected turn the moment I left the hospital. From then on, I moved to one of many safe places during a two year time span, and my journal became my confidant. Those journal entries along with counseling became the foundation of my healing and enabled me to put one foot in front of another, when forward progress felt impossible.
The Benefits of Journaling
By journaling, you can live in the moment and gather thoughts that you can reflect upon later. Maintaining a journal allowed me to reimagine how life could be. It gave me a space to reflect, and an opportunity to glean pearls of wisdom, and capture my voice amid the darkness. I named one series of journals Renewal By the River, another Honor Your Path.
Today, journaling remains an important part of my self-care. Pen to paper offers many benefits to nurturing and caring for your mental health and spiritual well-being.
Invitation
I invite you to check out this section every month and find a prompt that relates to managing your trauma, developing your renewal or planning your future. You can be creative. Write or jot down song lyrics, quotes, and poems in your journal.
(Some of the personal accounts I entered in my journal became the basis of a novel that is currently in development.)
You can also schedule a Let’s Chat session, which consists of spending 30 minutes with me to talk about your journaling thoughts.
