Our Story

Sharing our story is one of my favorite things to tell. Every love story is unique, but I think ours is pretty awesome.

Chris and I are from Indiana and I can’t say it’s my favorite state in the U.S. but it’s home.. were actually from Madison, IN which is a really small town and there’s not much to do but the place has a lot of history and it is very beautiful (I was born in Vincennes another town in IN but that’s another story for a different day).

Our story actually begins on Halloween several years ago back when I was still in high school. Our church likes to give out candy and set up games for the kids so they have a safe place to have fun. I volunteered to paint faces (seriously love kids so duh best job ever). As I was painting faces, there was something else going on I didn’t know about.. in the very same room was a guy I never met before and he was asking his mom who I was (WHO I WAS?!? REALLY??).  I noticed this guy walk by and I realized I didn’t know him which is weird because our town is small and that was my church. Little did I know it was his church too and his family went there as well. To make things even more weird, our families were friends! Making it a little more weird… he lived right across the field from me (I know saying “field” sounds so country but that’s exactly what I mean, there was my house, a tiny road, a field and then his house).

So me and Chris started hanging out, had a few dates… walked by the river.. (super country).. One of those nights we were walking he mentioned to me that he was going into the Navy and was leaving for boot camp soon.. he asked me to wait for him and I got scared. I mean I was young and I wasn’t ready for this yet. I knew he meant something to me, I knew he was different from everyone else. I wasn’t prepared to be with someone who was going to be gone a lot, I didn’t know at the time that we would make it through it. So as Chris was leaving for boot camp, I left too. I went and lived with my dad, who lives in Vincennes (that other town I mentioned earlier)…I basically ran away.

A little time passes and I get a message on Facebook from Chris saying that he realized I didn’t wait for him. I didn’t say anything back…

A few years go by and we grew a lot in that time.. made mistakes.. figured out more about ourselves and who we wanted to be. The weird thing was oddly I couldn’t stop thinking about Chris, it’s not like I was doing it on purpose I just couldn’t get him off my mind. Before I knew it, it was Christmas and I wanted to spend it with my mom so I came back to Madison. At the same time I was coming back home… so was Chris. He was on a carrier for 3 years in Japan, traveled to many countries, learned a lot and made some good friends. I saw him again, I saw him and I knew I made a mistake not waiting for him. Ladies I’m telling you, I PROMISE you will know when the right guy comes around. I knew and I almost screwed everything up, luckily there’s a very forgiving and loving God watching over me!! Chris and I were home for a short period.. I moved back to Madison and Chris had to leave because he got stationed in California. I had no idea when I was going to see him again but I knew I would because I knew me and him were meant to be together. A love like that does not just disappear. Finally he came back home to visit but for a very short time. After that I decided it was my turn to go see him so I flew out to California and we officially started our relationship together again. I have to tell you one of the HARDEST things I have ever had to do is tell this guy bye. He is the kindest, most loving and caring man ever, hes my home. Which is why I decided I was tired of saying bye to him when I knew I could do something about it. I moved to California so we could be together, I don’t regret doing it for a second. This place is amazing and I have loved all of our amazing adventures together.

Chris came home one day and told me that he will have to leave for a few months. Welcome to the military. Nothing is ever certain, things change, people leave at the last minute, moving to different locations even different countries. I truly hope everyone takes into count how amazing these men and woman are who protect and serve this country. Each one of them has a family who misses them dearly. As the time got closer to Chris leaving we wanted to spend every minute together. There was one day in particular that ending up being the best day ever (hence the picture in the beginning). He surprised me with us going to a spa together which was amazing and if you haven’t been I highly suggest going! After I thought we were just going home but once we got home he told me we had dinner reservations, so we got ready to leave. Went to dinner at this really neat Italian place, I regret not trying to take pictures of it because it was so cool! After dinner he told me he wanted to show me something that “might” be cool. We ended up at the same beach me and him went to when I was just visiting this place… we watched the sunset that day. I asked why he brought me here and he said the dolphins are mating right now and you can see them jump out of the water. I know nothing about dolphins and completely believed him so I was pretty excited to see this. We walked out to the ocean and he asked me if I could see the dolphins and I said no and he told me to keep looking and then he said “well can you see this?” I turned around and there he was on one knee asking me to marry him! My heart was pounding and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to laugh or cry. I couldn’t catch my breath, even when we got back to the house I still was freaking out. I even woke up the next morning at 4am just because I was so excited. It was truly the best day ever. That was three days ago, today I had to say bye to him again. I had no idea it was possible to have the best day and the worst day all in one week! I know marrying him means there’s going to be many more goodbyes and many more tears, but I also know that there’s going to be many more hellos and more smiles.

Wherever you go I go forever & always
